Today’s adventure started at Beahm’s Gap overlook (mile marker 28) to Elkwallow
Wayside (mile marker 24) I packed my Yaktrax because of the residual snow and ice.
We began our trek starting downhill for a bit, and then a slow, steady incline for the first
3 miles. We did have a few blowdowns and overgrowth to muck through, but the trail
was well maintained for the most part. We stopped at the Thornton River trail marker to
take a snack and water break and continued onward. We did encounter some snow and
snow drifts- and we saw bear paw prints! I didn’t have the need for my spikes, so I kept
them in my pack. We circled around the Elkwallow picnic grounds and wayside to end
the day.
Stats- 5.74 miles/1132’ elevation gain
Critter recap- deer
