Shenandoah National Park Appalachian Trail- Timber Hollow to Little Stony Man

January 3, 2026

Today’s trek started at Timber Hollow (mile marker 43) to Little Stony Man trailhead
parking (mile marker 39) Take note that Little Stony Man parking is super small and can
hold 3-4 vehicles.
We started a small ascent to a small viewpoint overlooking the town of Luray. We kept
on an even pace to Skyland Stables and Resort Area. In 2 miles we made it to the
Stony Man Trailhead and took a snack and water break. I absolutely love Stony
Man/Little Stony Man trail. It is one of the first trails I ever did, and the views are
spectacular. Note that Stony Man parking lot is big, but it fills up super quick due to the
ease of these trails. We made it to the signpost that designated the trail to the Stony
Man viewpoint, so we took a right to continue down the white blazed trail to Little Stony
Man. We made it to the false summit of Little Stony Man and took a few pictures of the
Valley down below. Of course, in true Shenandoah Valley side fashion, the wind was
blowing all kinds of crazy. We made it to the switchbacks on Little Stony Man and made it down to
the car.

Stats- 3.77 miles/720’ elevation gain
