Shenandoah National Park Appalachian Trail- Little Stony Man to Jewell Hollow

January 4, 2026
Little Stony Man to Jewell Hollow
Today’s trek started at Little Stony Man trailhead (mile marker 39) to Jewell Hollow (mile
marker 36).
We began our trek on a mild morning; temperatures were in the low 30s and there was
no wind. We kept an even pace on the rolling trail to Pinnacles Picnic Grounds. Per the
Park website, the picnic grounds are open year-round. We took a snack and water
break here and continued our way past the Jewell Hollow Overlook to the cross path of
Leading Ridge trail to make it back to the parking lot. I would recommend this section of
the Appalachian trail for anyone who is looking for a short, easy trail with good view
payoffs. You could even start your trek at the Pinnacles picnic area and do an out-and-
back to Jewell Hollow.

Stats- 3.13 miles/790’ elevation gain
Critter recap- none
